1916 BBW Replay Week 4 Summary - May 1-7, 1916

Two days later, we had the first no-hitter of the season when Boston (AL) hurler Dutch Leonard shut down the New York Yankees:
In the AL, Boston's early hot start is still paying off as they still reside atop the AL standings. They did end the week with four consecutive wins to assure their lead, but behind them, there are several other teams that are playing well, also. Fortunately for Boston, "playing well" also means that the other AL teams have not been able to put forth a concerted effort and have not been able to apply pressure on the first-place Red Sox. As always, it is early in the season, and if Boston wants to maintain its lead, they know they have a long way to go.
In the
NL, Chicago had dominated the top of the standings for most of the first few
weeks of the season, but similar to the AL, there are several teams nipping at
their heels. As a league, the NL had played eleven fewer games than the AL due
to early-season weather interruptions, so as those games are made up, the
challenge will be squarely on Chicago to hold on to its lead. Brooklyn had
struggled out of the box, but during these past two weeks, they have clawed
their way up to second place.
League-wise,
all teams are planning to make their cuts to get down to the prescribed roster size,
so plenty of cuts will be occurring over the next week. Also occurring over the
next week, the first series of intra-regional contests will begin as the AL
East teams will play host to the AL West teams, while in the NL, it is the NL
East teams training their way westward to begin their first tour of the NL West
teams.
