 I will be posting the results of my 1916 APBA replay in this blog. This page is just a placeholder for the moment. I am just starting all the replay pre-work before gameplay can begin, and I expect this will take several months to complete, so the season will likely kick off in the March or April timeframe.

1916 BBW Replay - Preparation

I completed my 1938 BBW Replay in December and have spent the winter months getting my 1916 BBW Replay ready to start. Retirement may have issues, but being able to spend my time playing APBA is not one of them. I had previously purchased the 1916 disk and card set last summer in anticipation of kicking this off. The disk has 400 players included on it, which means I had to add 127 additional players to complete the set. That is a lot of players. Why so many? There are several reasons:   There is always some level of churn every season with players getting their proverbial "cup of coffee" with the big club, and this season is no different. Many (most) of these players spent the majority of their summer on a minor league team somewhere, but for a few weeks, they got to ride the trains and stay in nicer hotels while at the top of the baseball food chain. 1916 BBW Replay Week 1 Summary - April 12-16, 1916

Boston (AL) Manager Bill "Rough" Carrigan Week One of the 1916 BBW replay is in the books, and we are off and running. The season started on a Wednesday, so it was a comparatively short week as far as the schedule goes, but all the teams were ready to play regardless. Plenty of highly graded pitchers, plenty or steal and sacrifices, occasional hitting … having just completed replaying 1938, my first thoughts were "This ain't 1938 is it?" So far, I have seen four shutouts, four extra-inning games, some real nail-biters … this is going to be a fun replay. Both leagues started out with teams playing other teams from their part of the country, so no cross-country train trips yet. That will come soon enough, though. In the AL, the Red Sox, the 1915 World Series winners, jumped off to a fast start as they swept all three games from the lowly Philadelphia Athletics. The A's are going to struggle this year.
