Roger's 1916 APBA Replay

Philadelphia (NL) Manager Pat Moran Week Three of the 1916 BBW Replay is in the books, and it was another interesting week of baseball. In both leagues, the East Coast teams are still playing on the East Coast, facing their East Coast brethren, and of course, the Midwest teams are still moving about the Midwest to get their early games in. Unfortunately, the NL teams have had a streak of bad weather to contend with, and by the end of Week Three, they find themselves having played twelve fewer games than the AL. It is early, and this should be easy to rectify over the course of the upcoming season. Every team is eyeing the upcoming roster cutdown date, so while teams do have a regular starting lineup, managers are always looking to slip in a prospect or two to get them at-bats or a few innings pitched before making a final roster decision. Monday, April 24, 1916   Transactions:   St. Louis (AL) pitcher Earl Hamilton (Team Finale: 04/23/1916) was sold to Detroit on 05/29/1916   Cincinnati infielder Frank Emmer made his Major League Debut on 04/25/1916   Detroit (H) 3 Chicago (AL) 2   The Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the first, but after the top of the sixth, the score was tied at 2-2, and the White Sox were able to come back. Detroit responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead, and this time Harry Coveleski (2-1, 1.69) was able to hold off the White Sox attack. Boston (NL) Manager George Stallings Week Two of the 1916 BBW Replay is in the books, the first whole week of the season, and teams are off and running. As expected, the pitching dominates, but every once in a while, an offensive game might break out. I am being aggressive, at least in my mind, with regard to stolen bases and sacrifices, but even though it is early, I can see that I am falling behind, so I will need to stay on top of that. My homeruns are coming at about one per day for each league, although the Yankees hit five homeruns in two days on a trip to Washington this past week. I am assuming most of these are inside-the-park homeruns, but I know they aren’t all inside-the-park homeruns … I intend to stay neutral on this … a homerun is a homerun. Boston (AL) Manager Bill "Rough" Carrigan Week One of the 1916 BBW replay is in the books, and we are off and running. The season started on a Wednesday, so it was a comparatively short week as far as the schedule goes, but all the teams were ready to play regardless. Plenty of highly graded pitchers, plenty or steal and sacrifices, occasional hitting … having just completed replaying 1938, my first thoughts were "This ain't 1938 is it?" So far, I have seen four shutouts, four extra-inning games, some real nail-biters … this is going to be a fun replay. Both leagues started out with teams playing other teams from their part of the country, so no cross-country train trips yet. That will come soon enough, though.
